Important as ever.
This is something I have been pondering for a couple of days now: We all know what Snuggies are good for, indeed! But what I need from you sportsfans is an answer to this... When is NOT a good time to be wearing a Snuggie?I think that it would not be good to wear a Snuggie while welding. Seth suggested that it would not be good to wear a Snuggie at a biker rally. What say you, friends? Current Mood: curiousCurrent Music: The Pussycat Dolls, because I am awesome and silly. |

The Borrowers!
So, the new Ghibli movie is going to be based on The Borrowers. I need to get my hands on the first book and see how hard it is to read--in my memory they're very easy, of course, but that doesn't mean much. I need to see if my students can read them! Current Mood: excited |

North, to Alaska.
Or back West to Wyoming. Tee hee. Our trip to McCook went pretty well. I drank a lot of iced tea and wine. Seth and I had to share a hotel room with Ross, Seth's brother. We had marital relations anyway (oh snap!). We went to Kansas. I saw turkeys standing on a hay bale. We scored some good gifts (and we gave some good ones, too!). The night before we left, we went to the Buckhorn bar with Seth's coworker Jesse. We were hanging out, drinking beers, when Seth's orthopedic doctor came in. He said hi, bought us shots and proceeded to dance like a silly white boy with me. It was really, REALLY ridiculous! And awesome. And then we came home and purchased a new Xbox 360. We got a good wad of holiday cashmoneys, otherwise we would have had to wait until after taxes to get one. Plus we are not going to fuck with this Xbox so we can send it in if anything bad happens. :) I just made a fresh batch of iced tea and I think I am going to drink more. This is going to turn my teeth brown and make them fall out, but I LOVES IT SO MUCH. Current Mood: mellowCurrent Music: The Offspring - Ignition |

Dude. It's true.
I really love my internet friends. I hate saying "internet friends" because most of my "internet friends" are in my "real life" in at least one way or another. That was a lot of quotey quotes! I am feeling a little sentimental tonight I suppose. :) Current Mood: lovedCurrent Music: Twisted Sister - Twisted Christmas |

Get off my lawn!
I'm officially an old lady. I put Arthricream on my bad hip. Yeah. We're going to do a little last-minute Chrimbo shopping this morn. We're going to McCook, Nebraska tomorrow. Woo. I should look that up as to where it is exactly, because I am not sure. Not sure at all. So I am loading up on massive amounts of COFFEE. So... It looks like I'm moving to New York City in mid-January. Never lived in a full-on big-ass city before. Should be interesting. |

Saijo Matsuri 2009 西条祭り from Brad Kremer on Vimeo. To quote from FB: Really great, immersive video, though long. Put it on while you seal envelopes or something. Click through for HQ version, good for full screen (took ages to load; worth it). Chaotic-looking festival, but I guess that's why they have so many people with the lit batons (I suppose most of the people know each other and have done it before). |

My iPod's Contacts thing is more sophisticated than my MacBook Pro's Address Book. If I choose "Korea" as the country first thing when I'm entering a contact, such as toratigris, it changes the fields, replacing State with Province and changing the order to the top-down order that's technically correct for most Asian address formats. Address Book just keeps State and all. When I sync the iPod Touch and the MBP, the info is kept correctly though... It's just odd. Is this something from a newer version of OS X, maybe? If you're on Snow Leopard and make a new contact in Address Book and start by setting the country to Korea or Japan, what does it do? Current Mood: curious |

Hump day!
Even though we still need to get Holiday Festive Extreme Cards mailed out, we are going to watch this guy do his thang tonight! Apparently he has a special announcement for us all. De plus, we are watching his Food-ing on our friends', Jeff and Bridget, big-ass TV. Its gonna make me hungry and excited. I read almost all of Breakfast at Tiffany's today at Lovejoy's. Seth and I went there for lunch after going to the library, and then Seth had to leave for a work thingy. I figured I may as well stay downtown so he wouldn't have to go all the way to our house and then out to work. It was a sweet deal. I drank pumpkin beers and got my read on. I even inspired an older fellow to do the same. While at lunch, I ordered an epic Cream of Mushroom soup. I need to make this myself now. Do you know of a great recipe for Cream of Mushroom soup, or any mushroom soup? It is the perfect winter chow, srsly. Current Mood: fullCurrent Music: Zombies on the Lawn by Laura Shigihara! |

Amuro vs. Amuro
Namie Amuro vs. Ray Amuro (original Gundam). She claims to have always liked Gundam because she felt a connection to the Amuro character. (And unlike a lot of J-pop stars, Amuro actually is her real name as far as I know--it's an unusual, Okinawan name; apparently Yoshiyuki Tomino thought he made it up for the Gundam character, but then found out there was an island in Okinawa named that, which he later visited. Just as in Europe and Britain, toponyms seem to be common in Japan...) Same person as the "Fast Car" video, by the way. And yay 1977 people. :) (So she's over 30, divorced, and a single mother, and yet still topping the charts--a little more unusual in Japan than here.) |

TJ and Amal now online
Albuquerque people: Remember those ashcan previews of The Less-than-Epic Adventures of TJ and Amal I brought into the Press Club months ago? Well, the first chapter is now online in its entirety, with new pages going up every Tuesday. (The extras are also worth going through.) Just thought you might like to know. |

No one else is going to bid on a signed copy of The Interior Life, a rather intriguing fantasy, eh? (There's a second copy that might be up for grabs, so I don't mind drumming up a little competition...) (Yes, the giving tap is STILL OFF but buying something I would be interested in buying anyway is still an option. :P) |

Ringing the bell for false dichotomies
The Salvation Army - naughty or nice? http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2009/12/14/EDCD1B0BL1.DTL"Bad conduct can be acceptable if a much greater good is being accomplished," writes Phil Bronstein. Why? Why must I accept their bad conduct and give them money if there are countless other disaster relief and homeless-aid charities that don't encourage discrimination, intolerance, and branding one group of people as less human than another? So I can look good in front of my fellow shoppers? (Bronstein doesn't address the reports that periodically come out about gay families being denied SA services, either.) I know no charity is perfect, but I will give my money to some other charity that has less harm mixed in with their good. There are both local and national charities that are far less questionable. It's not as though my choices are "Give money to the Salvation Army" and "Keep my money to myself in a fit of self-righteousness." Yet this seems to be how the argument is framed, repeatedly. When a better alternative or many better alternatives exist, I see no reason to support such a group. |

You gaiz!
I had one of ( these earlier tonight! )But then it went away when I stopped at our local Beer Mart to grab Seth and I a beverage. A bunch of my Cool Friends of the Non-Douchey Variety were there purchasing adult beverages too. We chatted and they invited us to a party! By now it was already 11-ish, so I figured Seth would want to go home and chill after work. But upon scooping him up and informing him of the festive occasion, he was down! The "party" was pretty quiet. Mostly just hangin' out, drinkin' beers and yammering about whatnot. I saw several buddies I had not seen for ages and Seth took a shot with a nice young man called Ferg. There was a gassy doggie running around and plenty of giggles. And a long conversation about the Pope enjoying Tupac Shakur. Tonight became a win! Plus it was rad to see Seth out and about. :) Current Mood: w00t |
